Lone bagpiper
Bagpiper on Lambeth Bridge with the London Eye in the background. The pavement (sidewalk) was very narrow!

On the prowl
I try and avoid taking photos of photographers, just like I try and avoid photographing people talking on cellphones, since it feels a bit too easy and cliched. But when I saw this fellow-photographer crouching at a street corner in Soho waiting for a subject to come by, I decided to make an exception. He noticed me at just the right moment.

Standing apart from the crowd
Back in March I snapped this guy watching the crowd of shoppers in Soho passing by. Looking back at it I wonder who he is and what he thought of the scene in front of him.

Hard at work
I took this on a sunny afternoon in Madison Square Park. This kid seemed to be very industriously playing in the sand with no-one paying any attention. I like his solitary sense of purpose and the way the shadows of the trees fall on the sand, getting down low really helped with a sense of depth.

Books on the street
In the summer Bedford Avenue in Williamsburg is lined with book sellers setting up out on the sidewalk. The one I talked to let me take his portrait (and yes, I did buy a book).

Martial arts
Over the weekend I went down to Columbus Park in Chinatown and took this shot of three guys doing martial arts practice. Getting a good action shot took a while.
I'm going on holiday for the next few weeks so there won't be any updates until mid-April, but I plan to take a lot of photos while I'm away!

March for Tibet!
A few Saturdays ago there was a loud march by supporters of Tibet going uptown a block away from our apartment. When I heard it I went out with my camera and a zoom lens to try and get an "in the midst of the action" shot.

Live in Soho
These singers attracted quite a crowd in Soho last weekend, apparently they're regulars -- I showed this to another photographer and he immediately said, "yeah I've seen those guys". As you can see, the lead singer realised I was photographing him and gave me a good shot!

Street lunch in Soho
I was out in Soho on Saturday with a photography group and took a lot of people photos, somehow being around other photographers brings out my competitive streak! It will take me a while to work through them, but to start with, here's a shot of some guys eating lunch on the street that happened to catch my attention.

Two days without sleep
Down on the Lower East Side my attention was grabbed by a store with a mirror on the back wall that reflected the other side of the street. As I was taking some photos this guy came out and we started talking about the neighbourhood, and then I asked him if it would be okay if I took his photo. He suggested the title.
