Turn right

I like the idea of photographing construction sites, but it's hard to get a strong image.

Like sardines

Somebody, somewhere has written a thesis on how to get cars into and out of these parking lots, I just know it.

Gateway to nowhere

I'd love to know the story behind this enigmatic former entrance next to 100 West 24th Street, but maybe some things are kept a mystery?

An interesting composition spotted while walking on the High Line.

Above the Hudson

Builders at work on a new high-rise above the Hudson River. I've had my eye on this building for the last couple of weeks, when I took this it was finally tall enough for me to be able to get a clear shot!

Fire above

Looking south from Chelsea, an unusually fiery sunset over downtown Manhattan.

The corridor

When I got closer to the woman sitting on the chair I realised she was a security guard. She asked if I had taken a picture of her and I said "You're in the photo, but you're only this big", making a little box with my fingers.

Sunset, Chelsea Piers

A big detour on the way home from work on a day when there turned out to be an impressively unusual sunset. All the black stuff in the water is the remains of old piers, things were presumably much busier around here before the container traffic moved to New Jersey.

At the church door

On the way to work. I hadn't really noticed this church before, I had to check that it really is a church before writing this!

Sixth Avenue

Walking up Sixth Avenue on a Friday evening I came across a line of people outside a store and took a quick photo. What do you think they were lining up for?

Waiting ...
Since Manhattan is a crazy place, they were actually lining up to get into a supermarket! Trader Joe's must be pretty popular. It's a sign of the times that three out of the six people in the shot are using their phones in one way or another, I suppose.

Technically, I'm not happy with the depth of field in this shot, the woman talking on the phone is the subject I focused on, but since I had earlier set the aperture wide (f/2.5) the guy in front is out of focus in a strange way. But you only get to take it once, I should have checked the aperture first.
