Dusk on the East River

I've been holding back this photo for a while wondering what to do with it, since it's close to being a half-decent photo. I took it from the Williamsburg Bridge at dusk, but as you can see the railings between me and the view got in the way. On the other hand I really like the colours, the bridges and the ship making its way up the river. A near miss I guess.

Perspective

Dusk outside a certain famous subterranean store in Midtown. I like the guy contemplating the water bottle on the left side of the frame, I'm not sure what that was about!

Rush hour

Movement versus stillness at the 8th Avenue & 14th Street subway station. 1/4 second without a tripod requires patience.

At the end of the day

Intrigued by the prospect of going to the beach in the middle of (a mild) winter, I headed down to Coney Island this weekend. Of course it was still crowded! I shot this as the sun was beginning to go down.

Above the Hudson

Builders at work on a new high-rise above the Hudson River. I've had my eye on this building for the last couple of weeks, when I took this it was finally tall enough for me to be able to get a clear shot!

Two days without sleep

Down on the Lower East Side my attention was grabbed by a store with a mirror on the back wall that reflected the other side of the street. As I was taking some photos this guy came out and we started talking about the neighbourhood, and then I asked him if it would be okay if I took his photo. He suggested the title.

Science fiction

This makes me think of the spaceships on the covers of the science fiction books I sometimes read as a kid. Looks to me like it's about to take off and fly away somewhere far.

Right back at you

This was a fun photo to take. I spotted that someone had put a large mirror just inside the open door of this workshop, so I positioned myself just out of sight (I'm behind the door so you can't see my reflection). As people walked by, some of them turned to look at what I was photographing -- them!
