Island sunset

We recently got back from a trip to Greece and Turkey so I'll be posting photos from there for a while. To kick things off, here's a sunset from Thira on Santorini.

Running to Brooklyn

On the Williamsburg Bridge as the sun starts to go down. Not the best shot from a technical point of view, but I like it anyway.

Fire above

Looking south from Chelsea, an unusually fiery sunset over downtown Manhattan.

Downtown sunset

I have a feeling that I post a lot of sunset photos, but I think this is a particularly striking one. The silhouetted buildings are downtown Manhattan and Jersey City mixed together.

Sunset in the park

Now that winter is approaching it gets dark early, on 4:30pm on Saturday I realised the sun was going down and raced to the top of the nearest hill to try and get a sunset shot. It's a cluttered composition but I like the colour and silhouettes.

Seven Mile Beach

Sunset at Seven Mile Beach on Grand Cayman back in March. I was hoping for a nicer sunset, but clouds can be impressive as well.

Manhattan skyline

Taken from Gantry Plaza State Park on the Long Island City side of the East River across from the United Nations building. When taking photos at sunset, you have to stick around for the best moment: this was quite a bit after the sun had "gone down", but this sky colour was more impressive than the rather disappointing sunset.

Sunset, Chelsea Piers

A big detour on the way home from work on a day when there turned out to be an impressively unusual sunset. All the black stuff in the water is the remains of old piers, things were presumably much busier around here before the container traffic moved to New Jersey.

North of Houston Street

A few weeks ago I took my wife to a French restaurant in the East Village for our wedding anniversary. The sun started going down just after we arrived, which turned into a great opportunity to catch the changing light coming in from the windows!

Sunlight
I like this photo but it's a bit spoiled by the green halo around the sun at the top of the frame, I suspect that it might be due to the filter I had on the lens. Next time, no filter when shooting into the sun!

Inside and outside
After the sun had gone down. The difference in the lighting outside and inside the restaurant caused the red tinge on the people by the window.

Dusk

Some photos I've taken on the way home from work at around the time the sun starts to go down:

Monolith
Not quite a silhouette of an apartment building, but getting close. Taken from the Highline overlooking the Hudson River.

Circles and lines
This is just a fence next to a building, but the orange sunlight created an interesting contrast with the blueish metal.

Clouds

Skyline
Not taken on the way back from work, but it fits the overall theme. I took this one as the last of the sunlight was disappearing, with a typical New York skyline in silhouette.
