Alphabet City

A few months back I posted a photo of this guy repairing a motorized bicycle. Here's a more conventional portrait, with bicycle of course.

East Village portrait

Just around the corner from the Hells Angels headquarters. They're pretty quiet neighbours, apparently.

Impromptu

A while ago I went on a photowalk that stopped by a small public garden in the East Village. While everybody else was photographing the garden I zeroed in on this gentleman and asked, "Do you mind if I take your photo?".

Repairs in progress

Wandering around the East Village a few months ago I came across this guy repairing a French-made Solex motorized bicycle, as he was kind enough to explain to me. I hadn't heard of motorized bicycles before but it turns out they were once quite popular! You can, indeed, learn a lot walking the streets of New York.

Science fiction

This makes me think of the spaceships on the covers of the science fiction books I sometimes read as a kid. Looks to me like it's about to take off and fly away somewhere far.

Right back at you

This was a fun photo to take. I spotted that someone had put a large mirror just inside the open door of this workshop, so I positioned myself just out of sight (I'm behind the door so you can't see my reflection). As people walked by, some of them turned to look at what I was photographing -- them!

Coffee shop

I spotted this guy sitting outside a coffee shop. People talking on cell phones are easy to take photos of! I like his relaxed attitude, but unfortunately I didn't meter properly for him, so sunlight on light clothing on a dark background made his trousers too white.

North of Houston Street

A few weeks ago I took my wife to a French restaurant in the East Village for our wedding anniversary. The sun started going down just after we arrived, which turned into a great opportunity to catch the changing light coming in from the windows!

Sunlight
I like this photo but it's a bit spoiled by the green halo around the sun at the top of the frame, I suspect that it might be due to the filter I had on the lens. Next time, no filter when shooting into the sun!

Inside and outside
After the sun had gone down. The difference in the lighting outside and inside the restaurant caused the red tinge on the people by the window.
